The Parallel Computing Institute is committed to advancing parallel computing technologies. XPACC is working to develop the computer science tools to bring scientific prediction codes to exascale computers, which are the next generation of large parallel computers whose power demands are imposing hardware changes that dictate entirely new approaches to data structures, algorithms and scientific computing in general.
XPACC Exascale Development: This area focuses on the direct integration of the exascale‐focused computer science tools developed within the Center into our predictive simulation capability. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
• Implement exascale tools to enable access for forthcoming heterogeneous architectures
without disrupting the production run capabilities
• Maintain a suite of model codes for our production software
• Orchestrate the testing of codes on pre‐exascale and exascale‐model platforms
• Deliver tools and test codes to personnel at NNSA laboratories and test code provided
by laboratory personnel
• Report results at conferences and in literature
• Seek opportunities for broader collaborative interactions at Illinois, with NNSA personnel,
• Work with center leadership to develop strategies and pursue opportunities to broaden
the impact of the center’s efforts through additional funding
• Seek and/or communicating with industrial partners
• Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements include a PhD degree computer science, computational science or related area with experience is advanced large‐scale computation. Preferred requirements include some postdoctoral experience, experience working in teams across disciplines, and/or hands‐on development experience with intricate scientific codes and software.
The Research Scientist positions are full-time, benefits-eligible Academic Professional positions appointed on a 12‐month service basis.
