2016 WEST Workshop
The Workshop on Exascale Software Technologies (WEST) provides an opportunity for researchers in the DOE PSAAPII program, the DOE laboratories, and others interested in making Exascale systems productive and efficient to share information on progress and challenges in developing and evaluating software for these systems and to develop and strengthen collaborations to address the software needs of exascale systems.
Each year, WEST will have a specific focus. For its inaugural year, the focus is on identifying challenges and the state-of-the-art in tools, and in developing connections between researchers in Exascale software, especially between the PSAAPII Centers and DOE NNSA Laboratories. Each workshop will produce a report summarizing the results of the workshop.
The primary goal of the first Workshop on Exascale Software Technologies is to describe the state-of-the-art in software tools for developing and working with application codes for exascale systems, and to identify the challenges in developing or using these tools. In this context, “tool” should be considered a very general term. For example, tools that are specific to particular runtimes or architectures are acceptable, as long as these tools can inform a discussion about (possible) exascale systems. It is not necessary that a tool be general purpose or applicable to general codes. An additional goal of the workshop, as mentioned above, is to foster discussion and collaboration between developers and users of tools for these extreme scale systems.
The 2016 Workshop on Exascale Software Technologies will be held January 27 & 28, at the Marriott Pyramid North in Albuquerque New Mexico.
